After three consecutive winter tours performing with the TSO and despite sharing stages with such rock icons as Steven Tyler, Greg Lake and Roger Daltrey, Alexa’s own style is much more urban and soulful and that is now her focus for her solo work.
Whilst writing and recording solo material for her upcoming album, Alexa’s popularity soared as she became an overnight YouTube success, racking up over 1.5 million views and 7000 subscribers in just 4 weeks. Fuelled by this momentum, Alexa acheived the impossible and spent 3 weeks in the Official UK Chart, peaking in the top 20, with her version of “Turn My Swag On”, originally made famous by US Hiphop star Soulja Boy. This track also reached number 2 in the Official UK R&B chart and number 1 in the Independent charts – also charting in several countries around the world including Ireland, The Netherlands and Italy.
Despite her sudden online notoriety, Alexa’s musical career has been years in the making. A seasoned performing pro despite her years, Alexa has been singing professionally for over 7 years, having first picked up a microphone at the tender age of 4 years old; “I would sing Whitney Houston on karaoke and from as long as I can remember have been mesmerized by singing. I love everything about it, the vocal, the performance. I just love music and always have.” Citing the work of the Soul greats, both past and present as her inspiration; India Arie, Donny Hathaway and Whitney herself to name a few, Alexa’s own style juxtaposes a modern soulful edge with infectious and fresh Lady Gaga and Rihanna-esque R&B melodies.
Now working with some of the world’s hottest up and coming songwriters and producers (whose collective credits include Jojo, Boyz 2 Men, Bobby Valentino and Leona Lewis), Alexa hopes to use her YouTube success as a vehicle to get her own material heard by the masses: “Now that people have heard my cover songs, I’m getting so many supporters asking when my own album will be available. I can’t wait to give my supporters a real piece of me through my own music. And maybe soon, I’ll have people uploading videos of them covering my songs!”
